Requirement

Repton School is over 500 years old and modernisation and sustainability were key factors in their recent refurbishment project. The school decided to upgrade the lighting on 12 tennis courts. It was a challenge to implement a wireless implementation of a wireless lighting control system that would reduce energy consumption, meet the high standard of lighting demanded by the tennis players and simplify community access.

The Solution: The Wireless Control System: Flexible and Efficient

Wireless Control via Koolmesh

Teachers and coaches can control lighting scenes with the Koolmesh app. They can select pre-set scenes like 50% or 100% brightness, depending on the activity—whether it’s practice or an evening match.

Token Meter for Community Use

A token system allows the local tennis club to use the courts without complex booking systems. The meter checks available credits and automatically sets the correct lighting scenes.

Automatic Dimming and Switching

The LED lights are fully customisable, allowing for smooth dimming and instant switching between different lighting modes. This feature is especially useful for transitioning between scenarios like “cleaning mode” or active play.

The Results: Enhancing the Playing Experience and Saving Energy

The implementation of Koolmesh’s lighting control system delivered tangible results:

  • Improved Player Experience: Players can now enjoy perfect visibility on the court with reduced glare, helping them focus on their technique.
  • Energy Savings: Customisable lighting scenes reduce energy consumption and extend the life of the LED lights. This has led to lower electricity bills and a reduced carbon footprint for the school.
  • Community Access: The token meter system simplified the use of the courts for the local tennis club, allowing access outside of school hours without the need for complex systems.

The Environmental and Economic Impact

In addition to improving the user experience and operational efficiency, the project had a significant environmental and economic impact:

  • Sustainability: The energy-efficient LED lights and wireless control system helped Repton School reduce its carbon footprint, aligning with the school’s sustainability goals.
  • Cost Reduction: The longer lifespan of the LED lights, combined with energy savings, resulted in reduced operational costs, contributing to more efficient resource management.
